Quetzal News
February 9, 2022
From Ms. O's Desk
Dear Quetzal Families,
Kindness is define as a quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Being kind, is intentionally choosing to doing acts of kindness. The challenge comes when people are kind even when it's difficult to do so. Research shows that when you are kind, you can experience positive mental physical changes because it lowers your stress level and increases your body's production of feel good hormones such as dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. In a world where you can choose anything, choose to be kind, even when it's hard. It's a feel joyful free medicine that can make so many people happy! Whatever the act itself, being kind follows four principles:
- Awareness: Let's be aware of the opportunity to be kind. Being centered in ourselves, our jobs, and our own small world, won't allow us to be able to look for opportunities to be kind.
- Non-judgement: Let's suspend judgement of others and seek for ways to show kindness.
- Actions: Awareness without actions doesn't show kindness.
- Unconditional: Offer kindness with no expectations of getting something back.
As part of the wonderful month of February, Valentine's Day a great day for us to show our friends how much we appreciate them. If your child would like to share an appreciation gift with his/her classmates, please make sure we are inclusive and everyone in the class will receive one. The gift must be individually wrapped, and students will open it at home. We are not sharing food with other students this year. Let me know if you have any questions in regards to this.
I wanted to let you know that we have seen great improvement in our iReady data for students who consistently attend tutoring sessions whether they are at school or from home. Please make sure your child has been attending tutoring and continue supporting them with this great resources. Reach out to Yesica Lepe at ylepe@mvwsd.org in you have any questions or need any support.
If you need an additional cab sign for your car, please stop by the office, so we can make one for you. This helps us a lot with traffic during dismissal time. We want to continue asking for your support following arrival and dismissal safety procedures. As you know, the safety of our community is our top priority.
We would love for you to join us for a Coffee with Superintendent Dr. Ayinde Rudolph for Mistral parents on Tuesday, February 15 from 9:00 – 10:00am on Zoom: http://mvw.sd/MI215. Bring your questions. Spanish interpretation will be provided. Please register for this event.
Our district is updating our LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). This input collected will guide the update of our District plan for the 2022-23 school year. Look for a meeting at your school to learn more about the LCAP process, as well as a survey about the plans' goals. An email with a link to the survey will come to your inbox on Jan. 31. More information found here: https://www.mvwsd.org/lcap.

February Better Together Infographic (flyers attached to email on 2/1)
In the month of February, there is much to celebrate and acknowledge. The Lunar New Year reminds us of the power of rebirth and renewal, while Black History Month gives us the opportunity to recognize the resilience of those on the shoulders we stand, along with the cultural richness of those identifying as Black in America and across the world. Heritage months grant us the opportunity to highlight the history of oppressed groups and their fight towards equality, but renewal and Black excellence transcend just this month. However we celebrate, we are #BetterTogether.
