Quetzal News
May 19. 2022
From Ms. O's Desk
Dear Quetzal Families,
Incredibly enough, we are at the end of our 2021-2022 school year. I know that for many of us, it has been different and filled with changes that required a growth mindset and practices of our core values of perseverance and grit. Throughout this school year, I have been a witness of our community's resilience, kindness, and caring. I couldn't have chosen a better place for our "return to learn" year. As you look back at this year, I want to invite you to celebrate all of our accomplishments:
- We completed a full "in person" learning.
- Our students were happy and loved coming to school.
- We have an amazing staff who cares deeply about our students' socio emotional well being as well as their personal and academic growth.
- We have a great community of parents and PTA who have supported our educational journey 150%.
- Our students were able to go on field trips and they enjoyed their music and arts lessons! Thank you MVEF and CSMA for providing this great opportunity for our students.
- We started getting our parent volunteers back on campus, and many participated in Living Classroom and Project Cornerstone projects.
There is so much to celebrate!!
I would like to take this time and thank MVEF and our parents for supporting our music and arts program. CSMA and its teachers did an amazing job providing great lessons for our students. Please take some time to check out the amazing Art work done by your children.
I wanted to ask you to please avoid entering or exiting campus via the Latham (Pre-school gate). This creates a safety concern for our preschoolers. As always, we appreciate your support on this matter.
"Return to Learn Talent Show" is coming up soon. We are looking forward to seeing our students share their talents with our school community. Please submit a video to your teacher and/or to me by May 27th. The video should be 3 minutes or less, and students can only participate sharing one talent. Our talent show assembly will be on June 1st at 8:30am for students only. I am excited and looking forward to watching our students perform. Let me know if you have any questions.
As we continue to support our students develop their character, let's remember what John Wooden said about character: "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."
In partnership,
Ms. Olaciregui, Principal

TK-4 grade students: Turn in Chromebooks by end of year
MVWSD is proud to provide a device for learning to every student, as well as access to the Internet both at home and school. Regular access to the Internet facilitates instruction by allowing students to research and communicate, and ensures equitable access to learning for all students.
Please help us keep our 1:1 program and student devices in good working order by making sure your children (grades TK-4 only) return their Chromebooks to their homeroom teachers before the last day of school. All students (grades TK-7) who are not returning in the fall should turn in Chromebooks by June 3.
If you are returning in the fall, your TK-4 student’s Chromebook will be re-issued to your student in August. For questions, please contact Jon Aker at jaker@mvwsd.org.
View and comment on MVWSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan Draft

May Better Together Infographic
May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories of Americans hailing from across the Asian continent and from the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. May 7, 1843, marks the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States. And May 10, 1869, or Golden Spike Day, recognizes the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S., which had significant contributions from Chinese workers. AAPI Heritage Month gives us a chance to celebrate and center the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions, and cultures. MVWSD seeking District Equity Advisory Committee members
MVWSD is continuing our work by engaging meaningfully with the community on issues of equity through the District Equity Advisory Committee (DEAC). The goal of the DEAC is to provide feedback to the Superintendent on how to support MVWSD towards achieving its goals of becoming a more equitable and inclusive school district.
We are seeking a combination of district-level leaders, principals, teachers, staff members, and parent participants who represent the interests of both elementary and middle schools. Committee members will be expected to attend and participate virtually in meetings held monthly (on average) online during the 2022-23 school year in the evening hours. The average commitment will be approximately 20 hours per academic school year.
Applications are due by June 3 and found at this link. More information is at https://www.mvwsd.org/about/committees.
