Quetzal News
October 15, 2021
From the desk of Ms. O
Dear Quetzal Families,
I hope you had a wonderful long weekend. At GM, our teachers had a busy day of training and teamwork. I want to thank the PTA on behalf of our staff for providing a delicious breakfast on Tuesday. We are so lucky to have you as part of our community!
Thanks for working with your child at home on our core value of the month: Respect! Bruce Lee said, “Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.” Building character is a very important thing to develop at a very young age. Here are some things you can say to your child to build their character:
You are helpful
You are kind
I know you did your best
I am grateful for you
I believe in you
You are important
You you don’t have to be perfect, to be amazing
Don’t be afraid to be yourself
We all make mistake, it’s ok
You can try again tomorrow
Don’t compare yourself to others
It’s ok to be scared
Even if you make a mistake, you can fix it
Being kind doesn’t make you weak
You don’t have to do whatever else you are doing
We are preparing for Halloween. Our students will have a parade on October 29th starting at 1:00pm with Grades K and First. Students in these grades can wear their costumes to school. All other students in grades second to fifth grade are expected to bring their costumes in their backpacks and change during lunch time before the parade begins. Please ensure that the costumes are appropriate and follow this guidelines:
Only masks to prevent the transmission of COVID are allowed.
No violent costumes: No pretend “prop” weapons such as guns, knives, or swords. We encourage costumes that show joy and festivity.
Costumes should embrace equity, inclusion, and diversity.
Please don’t send accessories that would distract from regular classroom instruction.
Students who wear costumes that do not conform to the costume guidelines listed above will not be allowed to participate. There will be activities in the library for students who are not participating in the parade. We will record the event and upload the video so you can watch it at home over the weekend.
Tuesday, October 19th will be our first day of full on-site pooled COVID testing with Concentric nurses. Only students who have a parent's consent will be tested. If a student in a class tests positive in the classroom’s pool test, the entire class will have a rapid test on Thursdays. Students who don’t have a parent's consent, will be sent home from school. Parents will be responsible for having students tested outside of school and submitting results. Please review our safety guidelines:
Students can come back to school after submitting the results of their Day 1 test.
Parents must also submit proof of their Day 5 test and the results.
Students must also quarantine from all other activities for up to 10 days (This includes any after school programs or sports).
If the Day 5 test is negative, the student may return to after school activities on Day 8.
Families who do not send in COVID testing results for their student will need to quarantine at home for 10 days.
All students who are part of the pool will be retested by Concentric nurses later in the week with rapid antigen tests, allowing us to clear pooled testing students quickly.
If you would like to update your consent, please contact our Community Facilitator, Yesica Lepe, at ylepe@mvwsd.org
Next week is our ELAC meeting, please join us on Tuesday, Oct 19, 2021, at 6pm. Looking forward to seeing you there. Have a great weekend and stay safe!
