MINIMUM DAY - Friday, May 28th. Dismissal at 11:50am
Ms. O's Message
Dear Quetzal Families,
According to Chris Morris, “Grit is having the courage to push through, no matter what the obstacles are, because it's worth it.” And, John Wayne once said, “True grit is making a decision and standing by it, doing what must be done. No moral man can have peace of mind if he leaves undone what he knows he should’ve done.” I believe that we should all look back at this school year and reflect on our own GRIT and the skills that we learned. These skills helped us continue our journey in spite of the many challenges we experience. We are still here, we worked hard, and we persevered! This year has also given us the opportunity to model these qualities to our Quetzales. I invite you this summer to make a list of all the positive experiences that you had in this 2020-2021 school year, and let us continue working on our growth mindsets.
This last week of school, the Mistral community has many important events coming up. Please remember that:
Tomorrow, May 28, and next Friday, June 4, are minimum days:
Kindergarten dismissal is at 11:45am
First-Fifth grade dismissal is at 11:50am
If you are a Zoomie, and would like “grab and go” meals, we will have your bags ready. Please be patient as we will have dismissal at the same time.
If your child is a Roomie, they will take their lunch home with them on their way out.
Monday, we celebrate Memorial Day, there is no school. Take some time to remember and celebrate all those people who have served our country and kept us safe. Things NOT to do on this day:
Don't wish anyone a “Happy Memorial Day'' This is not Christmas – Memorial Day was not founded in joy with the promise of brining glee each year.
Don't thank the current troops.
Don't disregard its importance.
Don't forget it exists.
Don't let politics keep you from rendering respect.
We would like for our students to continue working on reading and math during the summer. Knowing that some of our students struggled through distance and hybrid learning, our district team and teachers worked on iReady lessons for our students to do during vacations. Please visit our Summer Menu to learn about the wide variety of opportunities for our students. DO take some time to relax and enjoy family and friends. As Brad Henry shared, “Families are the compass that guides us. They are the inspirations to reach greater heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter.”
Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions or concerns. Take care of yourselves, get vaccinated, wear a mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance.
In service,
Claudia Olaciregui, Principal

District News
MVWSD Summer is here!
Every family's summer plans are different, but our district recommends that all students do some academic practice daily to keep their skills sharp in preparation for next year. MVWSD Summer is a collection of programs to help students maintain their academic skills, keep them connected to learning technology, and access free meals all summer long. These self- and parent-directed programs keep students in a routine during the summer and will go a long way to preventing learning loss. On i-Ready this summer, students will have both personalized lessons that their teachers have chosen for them, and lessons tailored to their needs based on assessment data.
Look for an email soon from MVWSD or click on https://www.mvwsd.org/summer to learn more. Attached are flyers outlining students’ steps for a productive summer and for easy access to all of the programs’ links.
