From Ms. O's Desk
Dear Quetzal Families,
Gratitude is one of my favorite qualities to have as I find it easy to learn and to apply on a regular basis. Practicing being thankful is another form of practicing kindness, one of our favorite values at Mistral. Did you know that gratitude..:
- Shields us from negativity
- Makes you at least 25% happier
- Rewires your brain
- Eliminates stress
- Heals
- Improves sleeps
- Boost self-esteem and performance
- Enhances the law of attraction
- Improves relationships...
This week, our staff felt appreciated and loved! Thank you for showing your gratitude towards us in so many beautiful ways: food, cards, flowers, cookies...We specially loved our students smiles and acts of gratitude that made our hearts do somersaults! On behalf of our staff, I want to thank you for making Mistral a special place. Working alongside with you, makes this journey fun and fruitful! As John F. Kennedy said, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them".
In honor of Teacher and Staff Appreciation Weeks, parents, students and colleagues made appreciation videos for our staff members. Please see ours here: https://vimeo.com/706294004
This last week, our student council launched our "Return to Learn Talent Show." We are looking forward to seeing our students share their talents with our school. If your child is interested in participating in this show, please submit a video to your teacher and/or to myself by May 27th. Our talent show assembly will be on June 1st. I am excited and looking forward to watching our students perform. Let me know if you have any questions.
We have successfully completed CAASPP, our state testing. Next week, our students Kindergarten through fifth grade will complete their iReady end of the year assessments. Please remind your child to go to bed early, have a healthy breakfast, and most importantly, just do their best. That is all we want from them. Avoid having appointments during school time, if possible. Your support and partnership are very important for us.
I look forward to seeing you at our last Cafecito of the year. Please join us on Tuesday at 6pm. We will be talking about our new Spanish reading assessment. Looking forward to seeing you there. Have a great weekend and stay healthy!
Respectfully,
Ms. Olaciregui, Principal

May Better Together Infographic
May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories of Americans hailing from across the Asian continent and from the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. May 7, 1843, marks the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States. And May 10, 1869, or Golden Spike Day, recognizes the completion of the first transcontinental railroad in the U.S., which had significant contributions from Chinese workers. AAPI Heritage Month gives us a chance to celebrate and center the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions, and cultures. MVWSD seeking District Equity Advisory Committee members

We are seeking a combination of district-level leaders, principals, teachers, staff members, and parent participants who represent the interests of both elementary and middle schools. Committee members will be expected to attend and participate virtually in meetings held monthly (on average) online during the 2022-23 school year in the evening hours. The average commitment will be approximately 20 hours per academic school year.
