Connecting to our Strategic Plan

MVWSD Strategic Plan GOAL 1: STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT Every student will be prepared for high school and 21st century citizenship.

Mistral Student Leadership Council (MSLC)

I am delighted to share with all the names of students who make up our "student council" at Mistral. The Student Leadership Council Mistral aims to improve the school community through extracurricular activities and volunteering.

We feel it is important to give the opportunity to students in 3rd through 5th grade to work as part of a student group to plan, communicate and facilitate school activities that represent not only our school norms, but to raise school spirit and build a strong school community. Then the process we use is shown to form our MSLC group this year.

Students in grades 3-5 submitted an application to participate.  This year we received 60 applications from students who wanted participate. That’s 38% of all of the 3rd through 5th graders! After receiving the applications we held a lottery to form a representative group of 15 students in 3rd through 5th grades. The group will serve one shift until the end of the school year.

On Tuesday, the group attended a leadership training by the Association of Students' Union of California at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Students learned about many important topics such as how to design a plan, develop an agenda and set goals.

As leaders, Maestra Sami White de Silva and I, we will meet with our student leadership group over lunch monthly on Thursday to support the development of their leadership skills. The kids are super excited and I am thrilled that so many children are adding their ideas and voices to form a healthy school community and to increase school spirit at Mistral.

If Your Child is Absent…

Please call the attendance line at 650-526-3575. If the office staff does not answer you will be prompted to press 2 and leave a message. Please provide your child’s name, relationship to student, and reason for absence. You may also send us a message through our website athttps://mistral.mvwsd.org/en/about/absence-report/

What’s an Excused vs Not Excused absence? Illness, doctor’s appointments, bereavement, and certain religious exercises are excused absences. Please see MVWSD board policy for the full list. All other reasons are not considered excused.

Are Vacations / Travel Excused? Unfortunately, family vacations or travel is not excused – even when you inform your teacher or the office. This comes to a surprise for parents. We appreciate you letting us know so that you will not receive a call from the auto-dialer asking you to verify the absence.

This is the "read more..." part of your post. Put anything that is too long for the teaser here.
