Maestra Iris grew up in San Jose, and after graduating from San Jose State University, she received her teaching credential at Cal State Hayward. She taught two years in Fremont before joining the Dual Immersion program at Castro Elementary School in 1994. She became the first Dual Immersion teacher at Castro in 1996 and recently returned to Mistral after a few years off while her children were young. Her three boys all attended the Dual Immersion program from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Iris grew up speaking Spanish in a bilingual home and is happy her sons learned Grandma's language. In her spare time she enjoys baking, reading, hiking and spending time with friends and family. She loves teaching at Mistral because the staff and community are supportive and committed.
A few words from Maestra Iris: My students think I am nice, thoughtful, fair, caring and organized
My homework policy: A math worksheet and a book bag is sent home with two books, in English and Spanish, and journal page for each book read. This is sent home in a folder on Fridays and due the following Thursday.
