Parent involvement is an essential component of the Mistral school community. All parents are expected to be actively involved in their student's education. There are many ways to do so.
Parents as First Teachers
We offer numerous parent education opportunities throughout the year to give you insights and skills to support your child's education (free childcare is provided for all school meetings).
Times have changed. Standards are rigorous. Behind every successful student there is a parent who is working at home. Reading to and with your child, answering your child's questions, practicing math facts are just a few. Teachers cannot do it without you, the parents!
Volunteering at the School
Parents may volunteer in the classroom, library or computer lab, garden, serve as reading and math tutors, making copies, laminating projects, shelving books and provide yard supervision.
Every teacher could use a classroom helper to provide individual and small group support, or simply make copies. Parent volunteers at the grade level and in the individual classes are organized by the Room Parent Program.
Parent Organizations
PTA
The PTA plays an essential role in ensuring that each of our students has access to an excellent education. Through its focus on academic achievement, a strong sense of community, parent involvement, and parent education, the PTA is the cornerstone of an inclusive community where every member is appreciated and valued. We encourage all members of the Mistral community to join the PTA.
Site Council and ELAC
Parents who are interested in giving feedback and helping set school policy are encouraged to join the school Site Council and/or ELAC (the English Language Advisory Committee for parents of English Language Learners).
