If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.

Spanish-English Dual Immersion
The Spanish-English Dual Immersion (DI) at Gabriela Mistral is a K - 5th grade, choice program in the Mountain View Whisman School District. This program brings together Spanish and English speaking students and families in a school that is bilingual, multicultural, and academically enriching.
The goals of the Dual Immersion program are for students to:
- Develop fluency and literacy in two languages: Spanish and English
- Meet or exceed state and district guidelines in all academic subjects
- Develop high self-esteem and confidence
- Cultivate an understanding and appreciation of other cultures, preparing them for a multicultural world
The Spanish-English Dual Immersion staff, students and families value language learning and diverse cultures. All office staff and Dual Immersion teachers are bilingual. We encourage you to visit our classrooms and see the progression of our children as they develop their capacity to think, discuss, explain, and problem solve in two languages
The Dual Immersion Program at Mistral is open for enrollment in January for Kindergarten and 1st grade students from all neighborhoods in Mountain View Whisman School District (MVWSD) and subject to the district's open enrollment process for a Choice program. Currently inter-district transfers for students outside of the MVWSD into the DI Program at Mistral are not allowed. To learn more about the MVWSD registration process visit the district website.
